In this workshop, you'll play with color mixing and creating palettes, learn the basics of negative painting, and work on creating your own wood panel painting.
This is a two day in person workshop in my studio in Northeast Minneapolis. Please note that the only access to the studio is via a set of stairs. If you will need help up or down the stairs, please let me know and I will make sure you are taken care of, but the space is unfortunately not wheelchair accessible.
On Saturday we will spend the morning getting comfy mixing colors and building a color story for our paintings. I'll also walk you through the negative painting method I use in my own work. Then we'll segue into painting on a 9x12 wood panel.
On Sunday, we will be working independently to complete the paintings. I will be on hand all day to answer questions, offer tips, and help troubleshoot any tricky spots. Folks are welcome to come for the whole day or just a few hours to finish up any remaining details as needed.
Everyone is welcome to leave with their finished painting when they wrap up on Sunday, but I am also happy to varnish the finished works for anyone who wants to leave their piece and arrange to pick it up another day.
Required supplies:
- Please bring your own reference photo, sketch, etc that you will use as a concept for your painting. Please do not use a photo of someone else's original work.
- Come prepared to get painty! Acrylic paint does NOT wash out of clothing, so wear old clothes or bring an apron.
- We will take a short break for lunch both days. Please bring a lunch or plan to grab something quick in the neighborhood.
- You're welcome to bring snacks and beverages into the studio as well.
All art supplies provided.
